Tiny Home Takeout 5th Anniversary

January 26

Tiny Home Takeout — Five Years of Serving Community with Dignity and Good Food

For the past five years, Tiny Home Takeout has been more than a meal service. It has become a vital part of the Waterloo Region, rooted in community, connection, and care. Founded in downtown Kitchener as a mission of St. Mary’s Church, it began with a simple goal: to make sure no one goes without a nourishing, high-quality meal. By offering fresh food on a pay-what-you-can basis, Tiny Home Takeout welcomes everyone, regardless of income or circumstance, and invites people to “grab a bite, give if you can.”

From Tuesday to Saturday each week, volunteers serve fresh bites and calzones from a tiny food hub outside St. Mary’s Church. The space is warm and welcoming, offering not just food but dignity and respect. Whether someone comes for a meal or a moment of connection, the focus is always on community. At its core, Tiny Home Takeout believes food is more than fuel — it’s a way to bring people together.

The impact over five years has been significant. In 2024 alone, Tiny Home Takeout served 88,600 individuals and prepared 159,000 portions of food. This work is made possible by more than 250 dedicated volunteers.

What started as a grassroots response to local need has grown in both reach and spirit. Community partnerships now extend care beyond the tiny home, while additional supports like The Bell Tower provide clothing, toiletries, and other essentials.

Throughout it all, the mission remains the same: everyone deserves nutritious, delicious food served with dignity and a warm welcome. By removing barriers to access and creating a place where people belong, Tiny Home Takeout continues to strengthen connections, feed bodies, and uplift spirits across the region.
