Gift Cards of Hope

GIFT CARDS OF HOPE – A small cup of warmth can change someone’s whole day.
This winter, as the cold sets in, we’re asking our community to step forward with compassion and solidarity. Through our Gift Cards of Hope campaign, we aim to deliver not just a hot drink — but dignity, comfort, and hope — to those most vulnerable in this season of chill.
In 2024, over 80,000 people in Ontario experienced homelessness — many sleeping in shelters, on the streets, or in encampments (Association of Municipalities of Ontario). More than half of that group were chronically homeless, living without stable housing for prolonged periods (Association of Municipalities of Ontario).
Worsening the crisis: people experiencing homelessness in Toronto are now 14–18 times more likely to visit emergency departments for cold-weather related injuries than those with secure homes (MAP Centre for Urban Health Solutions). In fact, many cold-related injuries and even deaths happen not only on the coldest days, but during “milder” winter weather — when rain, snow, damp and exposure still pose serious risks (MAP Centre for Urban Health Solutions).
That means a simple $5 gift card can do more than buy a coffee. It can offer warmth, a moment of safety, and a reminder: someone cares.
What Can You Do:
- Donate a $5 Tim Hortons gift card — so a neighbour can enjoy a hot drink, rest out of the cold, and regain a sense of dignity this winter.
- Prefer to give cash? That’s welcome too — we’ll purchase the gift cards on your behalf.
- Drop off all donations at Tiny Home Takeout anytime between November 22 and December 22.
Why It Matters:
- Over 80,000 Ontarians faced homelessness in 2024 — a figure that has risen by 25% since 2022 alone.
- Cold exposure is a serious health risk. For many without homes, a hot drink and warm shelter can mean the difference between health and harm.
- Together, we can help people survive — and perhaps even thrive — during what could be their toughest winter yet.
